A wonderful testimonial from one of my recent clients, but most importantly, a dear friend. Thank you very much Megan for making me feel so special. You rock!

...I had an amazing experience working with Mike for my pregnancy photos! Before the shoot, I was nervous about “posing” in front of a camera by myself, worried about looking and feeling awkward. The day of the shoot, as we got started, Mike immediately put me at ease, and made me feel beyond comfortable and beautiful. It felt like two friends just hanging out and laughing. It never felt like posing, and felt like the most natural thing in the world. Mike has an ease about him, that in turn made me comfortable in ways I never thought I would be in front of a camera. I wondered how he would do at capturing the beauty of a pregnant woman, and I was blown away. The photos were more than I ever expected, and I shutter to think if I had passed on the opportunity and chosen a woman photographer instead. I still, a month later, constantly look at them, and discover something new I love every time I look through them. Those photos are a treasured part of my life, and will be forever. I was honored to have such a talented artist capture this most amazing and transformative time in my life. I feel like everyone should have a set of these gorgeous photos, and I so I got a session with Mike for one of my best friends and her family as a gift. I wanted others to have such a treasure among their memories. I can’t wait for him to take pictures of my child after he is born. Thank you Mike for a fun filled day of ease and laughter, and the most beautiful pictures I have ever seen. I know my son will cherish them someday when he is older, and that is a priceless gift.

This shoot was one of my favorites in a long time. I was lucky enough to do this shoot for one of my old friends who is having her first child, a baby boy to be named Rocco. We had such a blast and got some incredible images. We were lucky enough to use this fabulous garden at her mother's house, which happens to have this amazing little tree and rock garden and behind her house is this empty field with rolled up hay bales. What a awesome find for a photographer! To have a beautiful mom to be, a great day, and a wonderful location with fun new things to shooot. It doesn't get any better than that. Thanks so much Megan for making this day so awesome!

I am leaving tomorrow morning for 4 beautiful days in Vail for the wedding of 2 amazing friends, Jesse and Christian. I am so honored to be shooting their wedding and to be their friends. I will be posting alot of pics from the wedding in the near future. It is gonna be incredible!!!!

After I get back from Vail on Sunday, I will be packing up my home here in Denver and moving back to Michigan to spend more time with my amazing family. I will be in moving mode for about a week so I will not be posting any new updates for about 10 days. I will not have internet access during this moving period but I will start posting new pics from the wedding, from my travels, and anything else at the beginning of August.

SoCal Sunsets..

Here are a few of the beach sunsets that I took while I was in Southern California. The sun set is my favorite time of the day and not being close to the ocean or water here in Colorado has left a big hole in my heart so I was so glad to enjoy a few sunsets while I was working in Cali.

These surfers were just relaxing close to Santa Monica Pier enjoying the same sunset as me so I had to snap them and it turned out one of my favorites in the trip.

Huntington Beach

This day on Huntington Beach was so freezing in the morning when we got here to shoot under the pier for a shot I've been wanting for years. We braved the cold and got some fun shots, including this and another few brave surfers who got some rippers in the tough conditions.

A just perfectly blue view of a lifeguard stand after the cold broke and it the wind died down a little...

I went to 5 different piers looking for this identical shot and finally Huntington delivered the symmetry of the pier lines that I was craving. I love these next 2 shots so damn much. I searched for it, found it, and accomplished what I wanted. FEELS SO GOOD!

I got soaked trying to get this shot but it was worth it, albeit freezingly cold waiting around with wet socks and shoes for a few hours trying to get the shots. I hope you enjoy!

San Francisco Steals My Heart Every Time!

A shot of the TransAmerica Building and Columbus Tower(which Scorsese or Coppola owns, can't remember) from Columbus avenue.
A national moving landmark, The Cable Car as it makes it's way up High St where I took this photo, at the top of Lombard Street(crooked section), with a view of Alcatraz in the background.

The incredible Palace of Fine Arts at sunrise. This place just glowed in the morning. Some of my favorite shots on this trip are from this place, this amazing morning.

Golden Gate Bridge, photographed from outside Fort Point in the early morning while the summer fog was still very high and the waves began crashing against the rocks. This is my favorite shot of the trip!

Another shot of the Golden Gate Bridge from Crissy Field during the mid morning as I was walking back into the city following my sunrise shoot that didn't really happen due to fog.

Sloan's Lake...

Sloan's Lake in West Denver is one of the most beautiful views in our city. To the West, you have the gorgeous Rocky Mountains. To the East, you have the skyline of Denver. Here are a bunch of photos from this splendid park.

This new lens does things for me that I couldn't do before and man do I LOVE IT!!!

The mountains always take my breath away, even from this distance, it is just a sublime view!

Another terrific view of the Rockies with some Coloradans enjoying a long walk around the lake on another gorgeous bluebird day in Denver.

I just love this state, it is always easily photographable, and I smile because the weather just gets better every day!

Slam and Wes...

I was out taking landscape and birding photos last week and I met Slam and Wes. They were 2 really cool guys who had these phenomenally awesome Chevy Impala's that I had to photograph. They both were super cool and allowed me to take photos of their rides and a few of them with their rides. They both had so much pride, time, and energy into their cars and it shows. These are 2 gorgeous vehicles and it reminded me alot of my youth, and the love my family has for old Detroit muscle cars. Growing up with Novas, Chargers, Impalas, Corvettes, Camaros, 409's, it made me smile seeing these cars. After talking with Slam, we struck up a common bound with our faith in God, and he told me a little about the car club he belongs to and invited me out to check them out and take photos the next time they cruise out together. I am super excited to see a bunch of these cars and meet the guys who put in the wrench time to make them pop!
Thanks Slam and Wes for allowing me the opportunity to meet you and shoot your rides.

Little Jagger...

This little guy is named Jagger and I had a chance to meet him and his dad Shawn while I was cruising around Sloan's Lake taking landscape photos. He was such a cute little guy with his John Deere trucker hat that it made me think of back home in Michigan. It turns out his dad is from Minnesota so we talked alot about the Midwest(how much I miss it and my plan to move back soon). Shawn was nice enough to let me snap a few candid shots of Jagger while we talked. I hope you like the shots. All these images are low resolution!!! Moving To Chicago!!!

Well it's official! I am moving back to my midwest, Chicago specifically. I am so so so very excited about this new chapter in my life and the new direction my business will be taking. I am moving in June back to Michigan to spend some time with my family and will be in Chicago in July.

With my moving, anyone in Colorado who wants photographs done by me better hurry because I will be gone the last 2 weeks in April and last 2 weeks in May for business. Because I'm happy for this new chapter and I want some extra traveling money, I am extending this offer to all Colorado shoots. Any shoot that is done from today through May 12th(when I leave for my business trip) will be for ONLY $100! All shoots will be outdoors, and will include a CD with 10-15 images from the shoot.

The Missing Piece In Me...

My heart cries out for you because it has never known this much love
The peace overwhelms my entire body like a giant west-northwest swell
You enable the flying of my weary soul
Like a shining star you lifted the feet up off this black tarpit of destruction
You erased the pain that lingered behind my sunken blue eyes
You healed up the heavy scars that devoured my pale flesh for so long
You opened my head to a world I had yet to see

Changed is this person who sits before you right now
Broken was the body that I inhabited before you came
Scared am I today that I will not recognize this way of life...

Uncertainty is where I am now living, if only for a moment, if only while you exist here around me
What if, it could happen, it might be fate, you never know what will happen, we will see, i'm not sure...
The list goes on and on and on in my head
What a hard life I have created for myself

My thoughts constantly drift to you like a broken record, skipping and skipping with no end in sight

MY ELUSIVE BUTTERFLY...

In my head are only tiny grainy pictures that resemble you
My mind is consumed by the thought of your body slithering right next to mine
To feel your warm silky legs wrapping around mine, completely intertwined
To feel your cold hands all over my skin like a sweater that was sewn into my pores
To feel your soft supple lips connect with mine, flesh on flesh, no limits, no time restrictions, nobody else

I would give up the whole world for one more day with you here
You make someone like me feel like a somebody in a world filled with ghosts
My hands tremor profusely at the thought of feeling you beside me again

Cancer-Free!!!!!

I just wanted to praise the Lord because today is the 5 year Cancer-Free Anniversary for my mother! I am so so so very thankful for the blessings God has given our family and to have this day is another amazing gift. My mother is the most amazing woman I have ever known and I am so lucky to have her in my life. She is the strongest, most courageous, most honest, and loving person I am fortunate enough to know. I hope that someday I will meet a woman who can hold a candle to you. You are my inspiration and I love you so very much!

A few more shots from the Superior Colorado Natural Wind Energy center. I liked this first photo because the snow on the ground makes a little alien mask looking face, at least it does to my eye so it makes me laugh...

One of the joys of living in Colorado is having majestic mountains like this very close to the city. I don't normally get out to shoot them but I am planning to make an effort to get out more and enjoy the mountains. I loved this partly cloudy, partly bluebird day with mountains and wind farm contraptions completing the photo. GOD is so amazing and good!

This is the closest I could get to the facility as it is heavily fenced and guarded. What a beautiful area!

Colorado Natural Wind Farm in Superior

I was finally able to go take some photos this weekend and THANK YOU LORD for giving me this day and allowing me the ability to take photos again after approximately 17 days without my camera. It felt so so so good to get out and take some photos. A good friend of mine Kelly had asked me many months ago if I would take some photos of colorado wind farms for her and her new house and I finally was able to find some(completely by accident) while I was out near Broomfield and Westminster I saw these big boys so I followed the propellers and came across this government facility. I wasn't able to enter the heavily guarded facility or even get close to the wind farm so I got out of my car and walked across the highway and took these from outside the gates of the facility. I hope you like them Kel!

Decisions, decisions....

After being stuck in my apartment for so, so, so, so many days I have been doing alot of reflecting and thinking about changes I need to make in my diet, my life, my relationships, and so on....

I love to think about my life but not to obsessive lengths and that is where my head has been lately, mostly because I haven't been able to get out and socialize with my friends or any people for that matter. Thankfully, the medicine and rehab exercises have really been working and I felt great enough today that I went grocery shopping for HEALTHY foods to incorporate into my new anti-inflammatory diet. Who knew that being healthy was SO DARN expensive!!! I guess that is the reason so many of us get fat or have health problems in this country because the alternative to healthy is fast, cheap, easy food that destroys our bodies and spirits. I am praying to God that I will heal well, will be able to start working again really soon(hopefully this Friday), and my new healthy diet will take and I will again start feeling much better.

Onto really COOL news, I have decided to get a new puppy!!!!!! I am an absolute dog lover but have been really guarded against getting another dog since the death of my last one many, many years ago. I live in an apartment now that is SUPER cheap but isn't conducive to having a puppy so I am gonna start looking for a new place to live that is more suited to being a great dog owner. If you have any ideas for me please let me know.....I know I won't be getting a dog in the next few months because I want to have everything lined up right but I am super excited to start narrowing down the things on my list to make it happen. I am SUPER STOKED to have something great to look forward to again.

I am not quite sure on what breed of dog I am going to get, but I have it narrowed down to 7 Breeds: Bermese Mountain Dog, Chinook, English or German Shepherd, Labrador Retriever, Rottweiler, and Vizsla. Now, I just need to do all the research on each breed to figure out which one suits me the best. I know that any one of these 7 breeds would fit greatly with my lifestyle, personality, and demeanor so now I just need to find the right one and then narrow it down to a solid breeder and wait for my best friend to come home......GOOD TIMES ARE AHEAD!!!!!

Ok, I promise that I will be working soon and will be posting photos again once I get some clearance from my doctor which will hopefully be happening tomorrow since I have done ALMOST everything he told me to do. I cheated a little bit but I am human right?!

My prognosis...

First things first, I want to wish a Happy 27th Birthday to my baby sister Jessica today! I am so lucky to have such a wonderful sister like you and I truly hope you have a wonderful day! I love you!

As some of you already know I have been having some serious back and hip problems recently. After seeing 2 different doctors(which is way too expensive since I have no health insurance), I found out that I have a severe case of Hip Bursitis and I also have Iliotibial Band Syndrome(or tendonitis of the ITB band--which runs from your hip down your thigh and finishes just under your knee). I have been unable to walk for the past 7 days and am still having alot of trouble so I haven't been able to work at all which is SOOOOO frustrating because I miss my cameras.

Per my doctors orders, I am to stay off my feet for another 5-7 days, take flexeril at night, take anti-inflammatories during the day, and ice my hip every hour until this gets better. Please pray that this gets fixed and isn't a long term problem. The doctors both stated that I should have more x-rays to make sure that I am not developing Rheumatoid Arthritis but I passed at this time. I am just praying that God will help heal me and I could use your prayers as well.

This is Tasha at this crazy abandoned bridge and tunnel location I found in early 2009. She is so darn beautiful and sweet!

This is a shot of Brandi over on the Riverfront Park Area. This is on the bridge with the river in the background. This head shot has a little sun glare on the bottom left but the shot still works for me.

This is Kelly in one of my all time favorite shooting locations. This yard is owned by a sweet old man named Mike who let us come in and shoot. He had all these odd props and old car parts so we used them and this is a wide angle view of the prop and Kelly. I think this shot is so fun!

This is on the other side of Mike's lot and this is an old car that has been sitting in the same spot for over 25 years and the weeds just started growing through it and the feel is so cool!

This is my lovely sister Jessica over at the remains of our old high school in Portage. We managed to have some fun while they were doing the renovations of the school.

Because every blog needs a photo.....here are a few more from my sloans lake session......I am trying to get some more work this weekend but who knows....

I am feeling incredibly uninspired lately in my business life and very happy in my personal life which is always what happens to me. Whenever I feel down or a little depressed it seems like my creativity just bubbles and explodes from the surface into an amazing array of art. I really want this to change so I have been praying to God to make my creativity return in the moments when I feel so happy as I do currently. Just got my taxes done today and I was SUPER happy that the good Lord blessed me with an amazing refund. I am blessed with an incredible family who is so supportive, my relationship with God couldn't be in a better place, and I am lucky to have met a really lovely woman who is helping me see some things I didn't know about myself, which is very much needed in my life. So.......Here is to my prayer that my creativity and inspiration will appear this week so I can get rolling on my upcoming sessions that are just around the corner.....

Sloan's Park in Denver

Good Afternoon! I am back in the swing of things again as my migraines and sinus infection are gone. As you can guess, I am one happy camper. I was blessed with an amazing gift yesterday from a special someone who absolutely made my day. Just when you think that things aren't going your way, someone comes along and surprises you and makes you go hmmmmmm.....God is so mysterious and so lovingly brilliant in the same breath. I am such a lucky man and I am so very grateful for all my blessings!

Anyways, here are some photos I took on Tuesday morning out at Sloans Park in Denver.

A really cool view of the Denver skyline from Sloan's park. Thanks to the lovely Monica I found this place last weekend and I am super excited to shoot some sunrises and sunsets from this location in the future. It is also gonna be a great spot for some engagement sessions.

I was standing right on the ice when I took this shot of downtown skyline. Don't worry, I was right on the edge of the land so even if the ice broke I would have been fine :)

These guys were just loving me and my camera so they posed for some great shots along their morning cruise...

I absolutely love the coloring of this shot. SO BLUE! The guy in the back right only had 1 leg and was not a happy dude about it. I have several shots of him during this morning and he is staring at me every single one. I'm sorry bud, it wasn't my fault, but thanks for posing for me :)

I think this is my favorite shot from the morning cause they are just chilling like 4 best friends waiting for something fun to happen.....I hope they got their wish, lol!

An Incredible Testimonial..

I just received this AMAZING testimonial today from one of my clients and it absolutely made my day so I wanted to share it with you!!! My job is so incredible because I get to help create life long memories for wonderful people like Rob & Lyndsay. Below is a photo of their lovely daughter Elsa. I am so humbled and grateful to receive wonderfully kind words like this from my clients.

Without further ado, here is what I received.....

One of the best things about the internet is the ability to catch up with people you haven’t seen in years. I won’t go into how many years it has been since I last spoke with Miller but I am fairly certain that we were both sporting what can nicely be referred to as “hockey hair”. Fast forwarding all these years and now finding myself with a growing family and thankfully much shorter hair, I was intrigued by Miller’s holiday photo special. My wife Lyndsay and I were very interested in getting some pictures of our daughter Elsa that weren’t your typical children’s holiday conveyor belt shots from the mall. To say Miller exceeded those expectations would be a huge understatement. While I could go on and on about how nice it was to catch up with an old friend, the finished product left Lyndsay and I both incredibly satisfied as Miller truly captured Elsa’s personality on film. My mother commented that “he really got her” when she saw the photos. Like most new parents we have tried to chronicle our little girl as she grows up but I can honestly say that this collection of photos taken in Kalamazoo simply accomplished something that I have not seen before! Despite it being one of the coldest days around Christmas, Miller was able to create smiles from Elsa the entire time they worked together. Despite not being a children’s photographer exclusively, Miller's ability to work with our admittedly “lovingly energetic subject” was truly amazing! They just instantly clicked. As we anxiously await the arrival of our son in May, I know I speak for Lyndsay in saying we can’t wait to have Miller chronicle our family for many years to come. The man truly has a gift with the camera.

My Emotional State...

So the past few days have been really rough mentally and physically so I haven't been into posting a blog update. My back has been increasingly getting worse daily and I have had a bad migraine for 3 days running. This has made my mood sour and not my jovial self so I apologize if I haven't seemed like myself lately. While I haven't really had the desire or ability to work lately, I am feeling a little better today and will be posting some new photos soon. Thanks for being patient with me :)

On a side note, my creativity has been flowing quite a bit into my novel and I had some great ideas come to me last night after an unfortunate turn of events with a situation that held quite a bit of promise in my head. It is impossible for me to question God's will, even when it seems like it doesn't mesh well with what I want at the time, but I truly believe that God has a great plan and even though we cannot comprehend it, we are still benefiting from greater things in our life that these decisions produce. This is what has just happened to me. Last night I was flooded with things to write as my emotions swelled and I felt my blood rushing, my body trembling, and my pride in question. My writings came from a very honest and sincere place and I am really happy with some of the new stuff. Here is a sample from last night that will be in my upcoming novel "The Winter of Discontent".......

....it is so hard to feel safe in the arms of alcohol, especially because it is the slow death of me, my principles, my feelings, and my world. How shall I keep myself alive amidst the moments of day old hate that fight against the inner struggle of belief in this season of transformation and transgression. I'm afraid that I have already lost all that was once dear to my bleak and weary heart. I hold you so close to my heart but you fell against the wind and became but a memory that I fight to restore. Now I am in need of something to make this pain go away. I am in the place where noone knows my name and I can finally hear your voice crying out to me....I want to feel your skin against my body just so I know I am not dreaming. I have hell on speed dial but heaven keeps waking up on my pillow....I am so far gone. I'm drowning again in my pain, my old ways, and fighting just to stay alive. The path to conversational reality is paved with so many pitfalls and I fall, I fall, I fall away from the truth that is you. You are the way, the truth, the life and I am drifting away, drifting away, drifting so far away....----an excerpt from "The Winter of Discontent", my upcoming novel that will hopefully be finished this year!

Fit Models

I am in need of some physically fit female and male models for some swimsuit and artistic nude portfolio work. The only requirement is you be able to pay for your studio time. This studio is SOOOOO incredible and completely private so if you are self-conscious of others watching you while you model, have no fear because this is the most amazing place around Denver.

The studio I use has 2 full dressing rooms, full kitchen, amazing lighting, great walls, hair products, makeup artists and hairstylists on site if you want to use them(additional costs) for your shoot.

Amy, Drew, Codi, Karly, and Levi

While I was back in Michigan I was lucky enough to shoot photos for a friend of my family named Amy. She has 4 kids who are super fun and were easy to shoot. Drew, Codi, Karly, and Levi were alot of fun and were total troopers seeing it was absolutely FREEZING the day we shot this session! We scheduled this 2 days after Christmas because that was when I was home and the day we shot this was the coldest and snowiest day I was home. We originally planned about 2 hours to shoot this but it got condensed to about 45 minutes because of prior committments and how cold the kids were. Even so, they trooped on and we got some fun shots while we could. I look forward to having more time to shoot these guys sometime in the summer when its warmer, that is if Amy wants to do another session :) Anyways, I had such a great time and we used this old closed down paper mill for some cover due to the elements. We also shot 3 of the kids at Bronson Park very briefly. Thanks for allowing me the opportunity of photographing your children Amy. They rock and so do you!

I really liked this photo of Codi, Karly, and Levi playing around in Bronson Park. Even though it was cold we managed to create some fun loving shots.

Levi is such a character and a joy to photograph. It is always so fun for me to have kids with big personalities who aren't afraid to hang it all out there and have a great time. Levi provided me with some good material to work with and it shows here with his fun loving nature....

This is my favorite shot of the session because I love goofiness since I am a total goofball myself. They all went for it and we got this great self deprecating shot at the paper mill.

This is the best shot of all 4 kids together braving the elements on a blustery December day in Michigan. I love the snowflakes cresting across the photo while they are all smiling and being rockstars for me! Thanks kids!

Thanks again Amy for allowing me the opportunity to photograph your children. I truly hope you enjoy the work and please know that your kids are amazing!

MLK Rally and Parade

This gentleman was making kites and things for the kids to play with. I just loved the solitary feel of this photo because he is so concentrated on what he is doing while everyone around him is milling around and the music is bumping...

A man looking eerily too much like Abe. This guy was a hoot and was chatting everyone up so I wanted to capture him and I chose to do it in black and white to give it some old school just like his old soul...

This little boy was so damn cute while he was jumping up and down and dancing to some Ludacris as it played from a passing ride in the float that I had to snap him and his momma. The minute I asked to take his photo he light up and started playing to the camera. This kid is a straight up natural and exemplified the amazing spirit of the day!

Another adorable little guy that I had this very nice monk pose with. I had originally just been taking photos of the monk as he greeted people and moved about Colfax but when he started interacting with this child it made for a wonderful shot. I love it when people of all shapes and sizes can get along and enjoy the beautiful world we live in. Thank you MLK for bringing out this spirit in people, even if it is for just one day! Martin Luther King Rally in Denver

I attended and photographed the Martin Luther King Jr Rally and Parade yesterday and here are some of my photographs. It was an amazing event and filled with so much fun, smiles were everywhere, dancing in the streets, music blasting, and people enjoying another gorgeous day in Denver. I felt so privileged to be in the midst of a wonderful day with other non violent souls.

More From Luke & Monica's Proposal Shoot

Here are a few more shots from the proposal/maternity shoot I did for Luke & Monica. This first one is the actual ring presentation right after he proposed and she accepted. It was such a beautiful moment and my sister and I were blessed to witness it. Congratulations again!

I just loved this old barn at the Celery Flats and had to shoot them against it...

Pregnancy is so beautiful and this is what we tried to capture with this shot. This is an amazing couple who truly love each other and this just symbolized the promises they made to each other.

I think this is one of my favorite shots from the entire session because they are totally lost in each other and not worrying about me which is the best way to capture real raw emotion. It is so beautiful!

This is in the old historic mansion that I was able to get for a few hours and we made this mock up of them relaxing. I took several different attempts at this shot but this is the only one that made the cut.

Luke & Monica

This all began with a simple phone call from my friend Luke a few months ago. He told me that his long time girlfriend was pregnant with their first child and he wanted to do something special for her to remember the pregnancy while I was home for Christmas. He mentioned that he would be proposing to her right around Christmas time and already had the ring ready to go. After some talking we decided to do a couples shoot for them and if it felt right he would be proposing to her towards the end of the shoot. Two nights before our shoot, Luke called me to tell me that he wanted to propose to her on Christmas in front of their family but he decided that having the moment on film forever would be something priceless that Monica would truly cherish forever. My sister assisted me during this shoot and it was very emotional and beautiful when Luke proposed. My sister was crying, and so was Monica. Now anyone who knows my sister Jessica realizes she is a total romantic, so it wasn't a big stretch that she cried, lol, but we were both so honored to be a small part of this momentus day for Luke and Monica. Congratulations! Thank you for letting us into your lives for such a great day!

Will you marry me???? YES!!!!! What an amazing moment and here he is sliding the ring onto her finger for the very first time. Love is so beautiful!

The happy couple just moments before Luke proposed. We were outside for some exterior shots when I mentioned that I forgot to get one more shot inside(which was Luke's cue), we went inside and he proposed and she said YES!

I love this photo because Monica looks so damn happy! It was such a pleasure to shoot 2 incredibly nice people and share a great moment with them.

Both of their hearts lie within this belly. Luke and Monica are so happy to be parents and I have no doubt they will make this child a very lucky kid!

A fathers love is such a powerful thing and I know that Luke will make us proud. I know he is really excited to be a dad and it certainly shows in our little bit of time together.

Randoms....

These are a few randoms from the past few weeks. The full moon was from New Years Eve while I was traveling to my friends house I had to take a little 1 hour detour to snap some great night shots. Always working and playing, life is good!

This is the Westword offices under this beautiful sky that was amazing!

These are some lights outside my friend's parents house and I felt like having some fun so I opened the shutter and slide my camera off the tripod into a slow fall from left to right to create the movement.

This is some out of service Lightrail cars over off of Broadway. The sky again is amazing with this bizarre little cloud cover in one streak that created a really cool effect.

This is just a park by myself on one of the almost full moon nights at the end of December. I dug my tripod into the ground real low to get this angle so it made the snow seem yellow while the coloring gradually moved the farther away you went. It is such a simple place but I liked this shot and the way the colors melded together.

Just a passing car while I pulled off the side of the road to shoot this little housing place with the full moon in the distance.

Mr. Jeffrey Miller

This is a corporate executive portfolio I did for a friend of mine named, Jeffrey. He is an amazing person, husband, and boss. Jeffrey owns and runs a rocking salon in Denver called Flirt. The salon is located in the Wash Park neighborhood of Denver and they do AMAZING work! I am happy to call him a friend and now a client. I truly had an amazing time with Jeffrey while we took about 2 hours to shoot this portfolio at this salon and around Wash Park. Jeffrey is a very deep man with a great connection to his industry, his friends, and life in general. I got alot of wisdom through his great stories that will help me as I grow into a better photographer. Being around Jeffrey made me feel so happy and I feel honored to do these photos for his website. Thanks Jeffrey for making my job fun!

This is my absolute favorite shot from the session because it is so zen! The honesty and sincerity in the expression tells a complete story without a word and that is so difficult to do in photos. Thanks Jeffrey for rocking this shoot like a pro!!!!
I just love the look of this headshot. I think it is my favorite because the smile is so honest and sincere, completely unaffected and true. I think it really shows the great person that Jeffrey is and it comes through easily. Again, I just love the black and white look and feel.

This shot is so very GQ!!! Jeffrey totally rocked and his personality shined throughout this whole session and made my job so fun and simple! This is definetely in my top 5 shots of the day.

The man of steel, lol! I think this shot portrays the jokingly jovial side of Jeffrey's personality while he is sitting in his office. The guy has an amazing business and personality and this shows why his clients love him and keep coming back!

This was one of the last shots of the day and it really rocks in my opinion! We had several great shots on this brick wall but black and white will always be my favorite! I have always had a fondness for Rodan sculptures and this is a similar body position and similar to the thinker. Jeffrey totally rocked this introspective feeling for thought look and I am grateful we got such a cool shot to close out the day!

Brant, Lindsay, and Avery

Here are about 10 photos from my family session with some friends from my high school. Brant contacted me because he wanted to have some photos done for part of his wife Lindsay's 30th birthday present. He wanted to get some shots of them and their beautiful 1 yr old daughter Avery. I felt very honored to be the person to help document this moment in time with them and I think we got some great shots in a short period of time. It was such a cold day so we kept it very brief outside but we managed to get the only sunny day out of the 8 days I was in Michigan so it helped create some cool coloring. Again, I want to thank Brant and Lindsay for such a great time. I truly enjoyed photographing your family and hope to see you again when I come back to Michigan. I hope enjoy the work!

Such a good looking family and all smiles here. What a bunch of troopers! Avery did amazing and was a real natural in front of the camera, which makes my life ALOT easier. Thanks Avery :)
As I mentioned above, this was the only sunny day out of 8 that I was home in Michigan so shots like this come out so well because of the contrasting colors. This is such a great moment between Brant and his daughter as they play together.

Avery was so curious of my camera and I kept teasing her with it to get great up close shots like this. I really love this one because Lindsay is laughing in the background at the goofy noises I was making to keep Avery's attention. I am glad it worked, lol!

I think this is one of my favorite shots of the entire session because it showcases her beautiful blue eyes and brown hair. She loved this little bear and any prop that makes a little one happy is worth getting a little camera time to me :)

I love classic black and white so I always try to get memorable images that speak to people. It isn't always easy but sometimes it works great. This is one of those shots that I really love! It is so cool to see little Avery being held up while she was walking in the snow by only the hands and arms of her parents. Parents are always there to help so I wanted them there but not necessarily in the shot. I hope I conveyed my thoughts here, lol!

Thanks again Brant and Lindsay for allowing me into your lives for a few hours. You have a wonderful family and I hope I captured it properly.

Christmas Eve Shoot For My Friend Rob

First of all, I just want to thank my old hockey buddy Rob for allowing me the opportunity to meet his family and photograph his young daughter Elsa. We did this shoot on Christmas Eve Day in Kalamazoo, Michigan and the weathe was freezing outside so we did alot of the session indoors at the Radisson Plaza. It was such an honor for me to meet Elsa and Rob's lovely wife Lindsay. Thank you for making my job so much easier and fun. You guys rock hard! Here are a few samples from the shoot. Elsa was such a cute kid and was on the whole time so we got lots of fun candids. She was full of energy so it kept me on my toes but she was a perfect little girl. Rob and Lindsay you should get this girl into modeling because she was a natural!

This is just so precious! Reminds me of the old Anne Geddes/Precious Moments type shots so it was definetely a keeper for me in this shoot sequence.
Running without abandon down Candy Cane Lane in Bronson Park, Kalamazoo Michigan. It was super cold but she was a trooper and enjoying the candy canes and Frosty the Snowman in the park. This shot is my absolute FAVORITE from the entire shoot! She looks so adorable and small against the tall candy canes. Too cute for words!

I love this shot of Elsa laughing and playing. I think candids are the greatest shots because they really show the personality of children and this is such a great example of her wonderful spirit!

Too darn cute! This vase was a source of great enjoyment for Elsa and helped me get some great candids like this one of her playing with her mom Lindsay. I thought about photoshopping her little bandaid out of the pic but I think it makes it so much cuter and real because we all know that little ones get scrapes and ouchies so easy :)

This is my 2nd favorite shot of the shoot. She looks like such a little princess in her headband and tutu dress next to this Christmas tree. I thought about having it in color but it looked so much more classic in the original black and white shot so I kept it as is....

An Abandoned Paper Mill and Bridge in Michigan

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

I have no doubt this is gonna be a huge year for me and my business! I pray that you will find 2010 is much better than 2009. Below are some photos I took on my recent trip back to visit my family in Michigan.

This is an old abandoned paper mill that I stumbled across around the area where my mom lives. As you can see the building is super amazing inside. I wasn't able to take many photos here inside because I was kicked out about 10 minutes after I arrived by a security guard of some sort but I still managed to get a few snaps :)
This is the outside of part of this massive abandoned building. If I could have had more time I am sure I would have found some treasures but I still got some cool shots that made me smile. Times are tough in Michigan but inspiration is EVERYWHERE!!!!!

This is the Kalamazoo River and such a quintessential Michigan winter shot. It was gloomy for 8 straight days but I still found fun stuff to shoot when I wasn't sick, lol!

I love this old bridge that is no longer functioning. I made an attempt to cross onto it and a few boards broke so I didn't press my luck any further...

Larimer Square and The Clock Tower

The lights on Larimer Street with a crescent moon in the distance. I love Denver!

I love this shot because the sky is so beautifully blue at dusk, add in the cloudy night and it creates a great texture, plus the Christmas lights of the clocktower and downtown area, then add in a bus that is blurred out with a few people in the background. This equals one of my favorite photos in the last few weeks!

Skyline Park just after dusk with a car blurred out into a thick streak of light. I really really love my job!!!

These overhead lights on 16th street mall are so cool when you are under them. I shot this very long so you could see the depth. The people sitting provided a great foreground to help with the depth of field. Christmas in Denver is so gorgeous!

My absolute favorite shot I took last night. The color is incredible! Larimer Square is so lovely on a Friday night stroll!

Fire Art @ 16th Street Mall

I was downtown last night looking for some new things to shoot and I saw about 4 or 5 guys and girls who were working with these fire sticks and I was immediately inspired. I personally had never seen anything like this so it was just so freaking cool. These artists were super friendly and had a good crowd of people watching them. Here are a few of the shots I took. I will post alot more on my website soon once I get through the busy Christmas season!

Some skaters in downtown denver...

I was cruising around downtown looking for some inspiration and I found these 5 kids that were skating around 16th Street Mall. They were shooting some nice size gaps and having alot of fun so they were perfect guys to shoot for a few minutes. I have captured a few of them doing railslides, kickflips, and just talking with each other. As a former skater myself, it is always great to see kids enjoying themselves and creating cool ways to express who they are without being hassled by anyone. Congrats Denver for letting kids be kids and not forcing them to stop!

Seattle Highlights

Some more highlights from my Seattle trip. I forgot that I didn't post many photos from this trip and I have hundreds that I really liked. Here are just a few that I edited this morning, including this sunset on the 2nd night of my trip. I took this from the roof of my friends apartment building.
This is from the plane I was on. Just exquisite beauty around the Pacific Northwest area.

This is a photo of my friend Siouxsie relaxing during a beautiful day while I was busy snapping away at everything in sight around the Sound. OH MY GOSH is this area so beautiful. All the boats, ferries, tankers, birds, just amazing....

From the ferry boat cruise at night right following sunset. I just love the blues in the sky. The emerald city definetely took my breath away.

From the park I think it was called Golden Gardens but I'm not sure...

A classic shot of Union Station in black and white which is absolute timeless to me. I don't shoot alot of black and white but I think it always looks so cool.

Another shot of downtown from just outside the Oxford Hotel. I loved the look this had with the foreground and background subjects, the light coming from the window, little Christmas tree and street lights.

Union Station Night Shoot

Below are a few of the photos I took last night downtown at Union Station. Last week the city of Denver put up all the Christmas lighting displays so I wanted to get some shots especially with the moon almost full. Here is a shot with the bus cruising into Union Station while this blue Christmas tree and Moon highlight the skyline

This is the back of Union Station at sunset. The moon will be full tomorrow night so I was able to get it into alot of my shoots. I just got lucky on this one because this skater just cruised through while I was taking timed exposures so he looks blurry which I love!

This shot is right in front of the Oxford Hotel on 17th. I thought it was super cool with the yellow cab waiting for a fare on the corner which provided a cool color contrast to the background.

This is just another angle of Union Station with a car passing bye. I froze the car again using a long exposure creating the streaking effect. The moon looks insane in the right corner to because it was framed by a light pole.

This shot is the blue Christmas tree up close in the foreground with the moon as the background. I loved the way the beads looked up close because you just can't see the texture when you shoot it from afar as seen in the above shoots.

Denver Broncos Game

This is a photo of 2 of the skydivers that entered the stadium before the game versus the Chargers. There was 6 total skydivers and these 2 guys came in at the same time and it was super cool. The speed with which they come into the stadium is incredible. What a rush!

Here is one of the singles flying in right above the lights at Invesco. So amazing!

The fire roars, the canons explode, and the Broncos enter the stadium for a beating from the Chargers. I was sitting way up in the 500 sections but I used a telephoto lens to bring the action closer.

As the sun sets on an unfortunate Broncos loss, the sky opened up to this beautiful shade of blue and orange making me smile as I took these photos. The sunset is my absolute favorite time of day.

I just love the way the lights look set against the setting sky. So cool and extraordinary!

More Fun with Lights...

I love to see the people driving the rickshaws around town because it brings me back to my childhood and carriage rides, hayrides, etc. This girl really got my attention while she patiented waited for the couple she was driving around to see the lights and take photos. I thought it was a cool image.
I love experimenting with different shutter speeds and f stops so I had some fun with the lights once I was done shooting all the serious photos. This photo used a 15 second exposure and after about 10 seconds I moved the camera to the left and down to create the streaking effect. The white line coming from the top of the photo is the moon. I just love this photo!

This is the smae as below, with the exception that I moved the camera in drastically sharper angles up and down to create the streaking but still managed to keep the shot in focus.

So beautiful is the display...

Again, just messing around with a 10 second shutter I believe and moving off the tripod to the right to create the streaks in the moon and the top of the clock tower.

Lighting Ceremony In Denver

I am sorry that I never blog anymore. I am such a slacker sometimes and all I have been able to do is shoot lately. I haven't even really wanted to edit at all either. I tend to go through spells where I am uninspired and lately that has been the case. Thankfully, this only lasts a few weeks and the other night I was inspired once I heard of the Lighting the Lights Celebration that was being held at the City and County Building in Downtown Denver. The Webb Building as it is effectionally called is all light up now until Christmas and it is so beautiful. Here is a few sample photos that will be on my website. Full Moon Rising

My trip to Seattle

I still have a ton of photos to edit from my trip to Seattle this weekend but here are a few samples of what is coming soon. I will be posting many new photos on the website so please come check it out in a few days for all of the work I did. This was my first trip to Seattle and I was absolutely BLOWN AWAY by how beautiful this city is, if not extremely expensive. I hope to take another trip here next year and take in the Oregon coastline for 7 days to get some great sunsets. Please check back to the blog and website later this week for a huge offering of my trip and my love of photography.
These first 2 photos are from Queen Anne Hill in Kerry Park. What an AMAZING view of the city from this place! I just wish I would have had more nights to shoot this incredible spot but this is what I got about 10 minutes before the sunset. I love Seattle!

This is one a ferry boat ride to Bainbridge Island from the city. This was right about sunset and it is the only time I was able to see Mt. Rainier in the 5 days I was in Seattle but man oh man is it stunning! I look forward to spending a weekend in the mountain next summer for more exploration. For now this is what I am tiding myself over with and it is so serene and majestic cruising on that ferry boat and relaxing and smelling the amazing air of the Sound.

Jesse & Christian

Jesse and Christian are two of my favorite people in Denver. They both are extremely kind and generous souls who make an incredible couple. I feel very blessed to have them as friends and now as clients. I am blessed to be documenting their special wedding day next July in beautiful Vail, Colorado. We decided to do their engagement shoot early on the Saturday morning before the Notre Dame vs. Michigan game. Anyone who knows me knows that I am a huge ND fan and was raised for many years in Michigan so it is a big day for me. What you don't know is that Christian is a huge Notre Dame fan as her dad Bob is a graduate of the amazing University of Notre Dame. Jesse is a huge U of M fan so their is a funny dynamic within this family during this big weekend. Unfortunately U of M won this year but we had a phenomenally fun day during the shoot and afterwards watching the game together. Here are a few of the shots we took from their engagement session. I am super happy with the images we created and being able to share time with this incredible couple. Thanks Jesse and Christian for being so darn cool and beautiful!

This shot is really Soprano-esque to me and I love it. This old building is a abandoned little market and warehouse that I found not too long ago and it provided an super sweet backdrop for this great couple!

A little tug of war with the chains of love....this was a fun shot to make and we had so much fun tying Jesse up with this rope and making some fun art.

They really love each other alot and this was so fun to watch and just let them be themselves. They are soft and sweet with one another and I hope it really comes through here and in all the photos we took.

I love graffiti and beautiful couples like this make my job so easy because they allow me to create amazing lasting images like this one that tell a love story without my boring words, lol!

Maria & Chad Walker

Here are the Walkers!!! What an AMAZING couple they are!!!! I feel so lucky to have documented their amazing day, but I am more proud of the fact that I call them friends. After a unsuccessful relationship with their previous photographers, Chad and Maria came to me and asked me if I would be willing to shoot their special day. I don't normally shoot weddings but I was so honored to share this day with them that I agreed on the spot! I am lucky enough to know Maria's big Italian family(I absolutely love all of them just so you know :) and was super excited to meet Chad's amazing family at the wedding and they sure didn't disappoint. There was such a warm feeling at this wedding. You could feel the love everywhere you turned. My assistant Dean and I were so lucky to get to have such a good time creating this work. It was a beautiful Catholic ceremony, and a huge dance party at the reception. After the ceremony, we headed downtown to The Millenium Bridge and Union Station in Denver for all our creative formal shots. These locations provided this incredible wedding party some fun spots to let loose and be themselves. Boy were they ALL awesome! I just hope that Chad & Maria are as happy with the photos as I was creating them. What an amazing day! I am so happy to share it with Chad & Maria. I truly love you both and am so proud you let me into your lives!

Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Northglenn, Colorado was the setting for their big day. Although the lighting was very low, Dean and I managed to still create some great images and have fun while savoring this incredible couple.

One of my favorite shots on the steps on the Millenium Bridge. I told everyone to let loose and go crazy and most of them took it to heart and what a cool image it gave us. We have several different shots like this that show so much personality, but this is the one that I wanted to show the world so far...

This amazing couple on their first dance together as a married couple while Maria's parents and Nona stood behind them and watched lovingly. I ABSOLUTELY love this shot!

The father/daughter dance was a very emotional moment for all of us and this is a nice shot of the laughs happening before all the tears began to flow...

I love you Chad and Maria! Thanks again for letting me become part of your lives.

Amazingly Cool Birds in Wash Park

I was at Wash Park today to snap some flora photos because they have grown considerably since the last time I shot there but it started to rain before I got to the flowers so I decided to chill in my car for a minute when I happened to see all these birds chilling on a little metal contraption in the middle of the pond and I was fascinated. So, I grabbed my telephoto lens and waited out the rain and then went walking and happened to get some awesome shots of different ducks and these interesting birds that I had never seen before at Wash Park. The best part was the birds just sat patiently on their perch for at least 30 minutes while I shot away. They must have been waiting for someone special or it was just their lunch break cause I was fortunate to get some great shots of them interacting with one another.

These are the characters that I had never seen before. I was asked by at least 6 people if I knew what kind of bird they were, and of course, I didn't and still don't, but they sure look cool :)

This is hilarious because they are all just chilling and the big guy on the opposite side must have saw some lunch cause he lunged toward the water for something while his buddies just waited patiently for something....

AWESOME!!!! This is only 4 of them but there were about 12 of them all together on this perch and they all were sitting the same way for the most part. I just wish I had my wide angle so you could have seen my perspective. Just a really cool part of my day. This is one of so many reasons why I love my job so much. Every day is amazingly different and unique! Thank you Lord!!!

I love that each duck has a different coloring. I have no idea what it means but it sure is a fun contrast.

Destruction of Portage Central High...

I was recently back home in Michigan to visit my family in August and my sister Jessica and I went over to our old high school and took some photos. The Portage Central High School we attended was in the middle of being demolished to make room for a newer, better version. Being the rebels we are, we decided to cruise over and assess the damages and get some really cool photos of her at the same time. Isn't she just so darn beautiful! Anyway, I love you kiddo!

Walking through the ruble that used to house the auto body, the drama room, and the old hallway where I used to stare at Ms. Baker with amazement and longing. In all seriousness, these are some cool shots that we were lucky enough to get. Thanks kiddo!

The old music room that is almost completely gone in this pic. In the background you can see the old Waylee Elementary that is also being tore down to make room for the new high school.

This was a bridge right by the old art room if my memory is correct. Now it just makes a really cool prop for a photo of my sister.

Birds of Denver...

Here are some shots I took on Sunday afternoon while I was walking around scouting locations for a modeling shoot I have next week. The first shot is a ton of birds that were gathered together on a big beam down by Millenium bridge in dowtown Denver. I just thought it was such a cool shot of all these birds hanging like family.

A couple of the birds in flight to the beam above where they would be reuniting with their friends and family. I really loved these actions shots, its just too bad that the backdrop of the composition wasn't any more exciting to make the shot pop!

The all glass building here is referred to by locals as "The Glass House". It is a really nice condo complex that houses several famous sports fixtures here in Denver. Thankfully it provides a cool contrast with these flying birds.

City Park In The Afternoon

So I decided to venture out with the sole purpose of finding some inspiration and I happenend by City Park in Denver. I had seen the park several times but never went in. Well this is a bad ass statue right in the main entrance with the cool fountain creating a fun little effect.

This is the same statue from the back side and as you can see it has a really cool statue behind it. I really love the way the water looks from the back side with the sun. It creates a totally different coloring in the sky and wiht the water because it is illuminated. Underneath the feet of this warrior are the words LOYALTY. Love it!

Just some random flowers adorning the exterior of the statue. I used alot of bokeh to create a cool coloring affect.

This is in an alley in the Santa Fe Art District. What an incredible alley this is, full of great talented murals such as this, amazing graffiti trash bins, and fences. Really amazing that the owners of these restaurants and shops allow these kids the opportunity of putting their art on display. It is great inspiration for me too :)

Here are some photos I took while flying back to Denver from Chicago last week. Please read the little blurb below the photos for my quirky thoughts on clouds, and why I love them...

This was my favorite set of clouds of the flight, just because they are all spread out and single, which is a big thing in my life, lol. I just LOVE clouds, they way they form, how fast they move, what they start from, how they end up, etc.....I know I am a geek, but they just fascinate them. I just imagine they are so soft and pillowesque....hopefully one day when my time comes and I go to Heaven, my good Lord will let me play in them :)

So alot of the photos that I will be posting on the blog will be lower resolution files so if the shady people on the internet want to steal them, which I HIGHLY discourage, at least they are not getting the high res images that will be featured on the website. Unfortunately, it is really hard to stop internet theft, but we try our best to protect our images, our brand, and OUR wallets!

I thought this cloud formation took on the form of a heart and so I reached into my camera bag to get my camera and it had moved to quick so I got this shot, which I still really love, it just wasn't the perfect shot I had hoped it would be....Oh well, that's a huge lesson for anyone who loves photography....always have your camera ready to shoot, AT ALL TIMES! I forgot the cardinal rule and got skunked. Next time I will get it :)

Alright, the day has come! My website is ready for everyone to see and hopefully enjoy! I busted my butt getting this site done and trust me it was crazy difficult because I am not a web genius, more like a ten year trying to learn how to drive, they just don't mix. LOL!

Seriously, the site goes live Friday morning. I am working out alot of bugs currently but everything should be good. So with the site going up, my blog will kind of be the command center for upcoming projects, news of shoots, types of shoots i will be doing, why I shoot things a certain way, and also will be posting photos that I probably won't post on the site but still love just the same.

The Website is Finally Done!!!

Hello again. Sorry that it has been SOO long since I have written an entry but with all the travel and increased workload I just haven't had the time. I have been working super hard with many photo shoots and finishing my website has taken up all my time. Thankfully, my website is finished and will be launched this upcoming Friday :) I am super happy that it is ready to go and you will get the chance to enjoy my work. I will continually be blogging about my clients and then posting a few samples on here of those clients. I have a few weddings that I am shooting in the next 2 months and many portrait sessions so keep your eyes peeled for some good new work.

Traveling...

Just a quick update.....I have been doing some traveling lately, and will be doing alot more in the next month so I won't be updating this blog very often in the next 30 days but please keep checking back as I have a TON of new shoots coming up in that same period. I have 5 new modeling shoots, 3 commericial shoots, 4 family shoots, and will have lots of randoms of my travels to Chicago and Michigan thrown in for good measure to keep you happy.
